Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Cosbaby Set (Series 1)

So I spent the weekend in Calgary, and unfortunately missed posting last night when I got back to my hotel room pretty late and dozed off immediately. So that's two I owe you guys. I'm keeping a tab. Wouldn't be the 30 day challenge if I didn't fulfill 30 posts (in my eyes)

So today, I bring you a pretty cool item. It has a weird background and it's the only single "format" of this kind of figure I own. Normally I buy several of the same format figures, but I haven't gotten around to picking up too many of these until this set came out. I'm not really a huge fan of buying several small figures and piecing together a collection. Especially those that come in "blind" boxes (boxes where you don't know which figure you're getting until you open it and the idea is that you try to complete an entire collection by trading with other people, scoping kijiji, putting bids out on ebay, selling parts of your collection to finish this one, remortgaging your house, selling a kid or two). But for this special set, Hot Toys put them out in 1 go in a single package. Kick ass. 100% of the set. 0% of the pain.

Hot Toys - Hot Toys is a pretty big name in the collector industry now. They've taken collectors by a storm because of their 1/6 (12") figures. If you follow my blog you've probably seen a few reviews. But if not, there they are:

Since then, they have expanded to a few new lines with one of the newest being the "Cosbaby" format. They consist of a "super deformed" figure which has a big head, large anime style eyes and a smaller body. They stand close to 3" high and contain quite a bit of articulation than most figures this size.

Onwards to the box set:

Although the bos says Iron man 3 Cosbaby set, this set actually contains every Iron Man armour in Iron Man 1, Iron man 2, and avengers. If they were to add Iron Man 3, I don't know how big the set would be with the introduction of 35 new armours as part of the "House Party" protocol.

So just gonna give you guys a quick lo-down on the armours in this set incase you aren't as Iron Man armour savvy:

Tony Stark when he is testing out his armour in Iron Man 2 with one gauntlet and one boot on:

Seen in Iron man 1. This is the first armour he built in "a cave with nothing but scraps" which allows him to escape and return back to North American society.

Iron Man Mark II. Used as just a test armour for flight in Iron man 1. Later Rhodey fights him when he's being an asshole at some party and takes it to the U.S. Government where it is converted to "War Machine"

Iron Man Mark III. The armour used at the end of Iron Man to fight the Iron Monger. Aesthetically it looks just like a repaint of the Mark II and also weaponized.

Mark IV. First armor seen in Iron Man 2. The one Tony Stark gets drunk in and uses to destroy his mansion. He gives up this armour because of the palladium poisoning which is used to run the Arc reactor.

Mark V. Also known as the suitcase armour, Tony Stark uses this as a portable armour when he travels. Used to fight whiplash for the first time during the F1 race in Iron Man 2

Mark VI. Final armour created in Iron Man 2 by Tony Stark. It is powered by the new Arc Reactor Tony creates from vibranium which allows for a much higher power output than his previous suits. He also uses this armour at the beginning of The Avengers where he goes up against Thor for a short while.

Mark VII: Tony Stark created this as an iteration after the Mark VI but was not complete when the Chitauri attacked. It features an ability to automatically build up around the wearer when called upon which was the first of many suits which automatically deployed.

  1. Those are cute.

On a tangential note, a friend of mine on facebook was saying that she doesn't get the Iron Man movie. Not having seen the movie, I couldn't help but give her a hand with that. My comment:

IT'S A GUY IN A METAL SUIT FIGHTING CRIME WHAT'S NOT TO GET?!!
